Vans and Record Store Day present Portraits Of Her: a collaborative record, zine, and video series created by women, for women.

This project shines a light on the women working in the music industry. From the ones on stage, to those running record stores and working behind the scenes — we’re uplifting their stories and experiences, honoring their truths, and celebrating their strength and passion in continuing to pave the path forward for others.

For Record Store Day itself, we released our zine & album, over 82% of which was made by women. The limited-edition vinyl features 16 donated tracks from groundbreaking female artists, while sales of the album benefitted We Are Moving The Needle. We partnered with artist Jordi Ng to design the zine.

We took our concept a step further in our outreach packages, which featured a removable tab: “21% of musicians, 12% of songwriters, & 2% of producers in music are women…” Inviting the receiver to throw away the statistics that projects like ours set out to subvert.
